The Gang of Four is Dave North's nickname for the craters that "come to light" at the same time, around 60 degrees east; the only such "row" on the moon and quite notable even in binoculars, quoting Dave's description. The four craters are Langrenus (Rukl chart 49), Vandelinus (chart 60), Petavius (chart 59), and Furnerius (chart 69.) Vallis Palitzsch is the dark feature next to Petavius. The crater just visible on the terminator is Legendre. I made this very quick sketch of the gang recently through my f/9 AP180 looking through Zeiss Abbe eyepieces in a Zeiss binoviewer on the same night I sketched Mare Crisium. A few days past full moon, I love observing and sketching late at night when the moon is high, and I have the telescope to myself. 17-day old waning moon. Telescope F/9 AP180EDT refractor, 25mm Zeiss Abbe Orthos and Zeiss Binoviewer. 180x.
