These sketches were made at 8:36 p.m. Pacific Oct 21, 2006 (03:36 UTC October 22, 2006) at our dark sky observing site Chuckwalla Bench/Colorado desert 33 N Latitude, 115 W Longitude. The comet was setting a few hours after sunset, not the most favorable sketching situation. At the time of this sketch, the comet was less than 30 degrees above the horizon, and as opposed to the great photos of this comet, I could just see a hint of a tail. A nice yellowish double star, mag 4.31 Mu 1 and and mag 6.51 Mu 2 Bootis were the brightest stars in the eyepiece view. Telescope: 12.5-inch f/7.3 Litebox reflector, eyepiece 19 Panoptic, 96x. North is down and East is to the right on these sketches.
