Sketched at the eyepiece. North is up. Preceeding limb is to the left and following limb is to the right. 180mm f/9 refractor, 16 mm orthoscopic eyepieces through binoviewer, and 3x (total) barlow. Magnification 300x.
It was cold (for California) at 38 degrees Farenheit, and my hands were cold from sketching without gloves on. The outstanding seeing was begining to soften. My warm eyes were fogging up the Zeiss Abbe Orthos in the binoviewer, and I was warming them with the handwarmers to evaporate the moisture. I made one final sketch, as the GRS neared the preceding limb. It was followed by a majestic parade of white ovals. South of the ovals, a split appeared in the SEB. Another split in the South Equatorial Belt, barely visible in the first sketch of the evening, was rotating back into view.
